What are Pre Augers?
A Pre-Auger or Piling Auger is a type of drill that incorporates a helical screw blade, sometimes called a ‘flight’ which in construction is used to drill or loosen earth in preparation for driving sheet piles.
What Can Pre Augers be used for?
Pre augering is chiefly used in difficult stiff ground conditions where it is necessary to pre-drive the soil in order to turn non-cohesive soil into cohesive soil, thus enabling piles to be driven much more easily through the loosened ground.
What are the benefits of Pre Augers?
A Pre-Auger is fitted to an excavator in the same way as an Excavator Mounted Vibrator (EMV) and using the pre-augering method means a vibratory hammer can be used in place of an impact hammer.
Using a piling auger as a method of preparing the soil is beneficial for a number of reasons:
- Far Safer Solution
- Faster than conventional piling methods
- Environmentally Friendly
- Much quieter than using impact hammers
- Reduced hire and transport costs
- Guaranteed drivability
- Excavator size 13-25 tonne
