City & Guilds 6160-04 Level 3 Award in Control Entry and Arrangements for Confined Spaces

The theoretical and practical safety course is mapped to the National Occupational Standards providing those who possess entry controller (top person) duties with the necessary training and assessment.

The 3 day course can accommodate up to 10 delegates per day.

Aims & Objectives

The aim of this training is to reflect the national occupational standard for controlling entry and arrangements at a confined space. This unit covers both water and non-water industry areas.

  • Water: this may include working with potable water, sewage treatment processes, drain and sewer cleaning operations, or where the operative is working in or near water, or where a confined space is subject to surface water flooding.
  • Non-water: this may include pharmaceutical, petrochemical, asbestos removal, vehicle manufacture and servicing, aeronautical, construction, communications, power, utilities gas, electrical and mechanical engineering, and some elements of work operations in mines, quarries, and tunnelling.

Additional Information

It is understand that many people will want qualifications to both enter the confined space and to take on top person (entry controller) duties. In these cases please consider combining qualifications. For example, the City & Guilds 6160-02 Level 2 Award in Medium Risk Confined Spaces + City & Guilds 6160-04 Level 3 Award in Control Entry and Arrangements for Confined Spaces = 5 days.

Pre-requisites

Candidates must be able to understand spoken English, interpreters are not allowed in the City & Guilds assessment. Reasonable adjustments can be made where required (example: learning difficulty or challenge).

  • City & Guilds valid for 3 years

Who Will Benefit?

Managers, Supervisors, safety professionals and/or operatives who are going to be deemed the Entry Controller/Top Person. This is the individual who controls entry and arrangements for confined spaces. It’s of vital importance to remember this person does not enter the confined space.

 If you are seeking to understand the duties of the entry controller (Top Person), the pre-entry procedures, entry into and exit from the confined space, maintaining communications and initiating and controlling emergency procedures this course is for you.
