Meet The Major Projects Team

Below the surface and behind the scenes of Groundforce's major infrastructure projects, is a team working hard in the background.

Groundforce Shorco’s Major Projects division supports some of the UK’s most complex excavations with engineered hydraulic propping systems and expert project delivery. It’s a service built on engineering experience, careful planning, and a team structured to support the full lifecycle of major temporary works.

Here’s how the team works together to keep every part of the system moving:

The Depot Team

At the Major Projects depot, the day begins with planning, inspections, and preparation. The operations team, led by Richard Dawson with Paul McIntosh’s project coordinators team are responsible for making sure equipment is ready for delivery for UK, Ireland and EU Projects.

That includes carrying out pre-delivery checks, managing fabrication tasks, setting up load monitoring and assisting with site setup and Installation assistance where required. Every item that leaves the depot is inspected, checked, and signed off.

The Engineers

Led by Design Manager Chiara Morena, our in-house design team is involved from the earliest stages of each project. Made up of senior engineers working towards chartership, the team reviews technical requirements and develops bespoke propping solutions to ensure structural integrity and compliance across complex temporary works.

Each scheme is tailored to the project’s ground conditions, load requirements, and site constraints. All struts are designed to meet EN1993 resistance standards, and the team remains involved throughout the full project lifecycle to support any required adjustments.

In addition to technical design, the team works directly with customers, often leading early-stage design meetings. Acting as a bridge between Sales, Operations, and Depot, they coordinate final design stages and kit preparation. The team also maintains and develops its own catalogue of bespoke and standard components to continuously strengthen our temporary propping offer.

The Hire Desk

Melissa Coates, Major Projects Hire Controller, manages customer requests, delivery schedules, and hire logistics. Her team ensures quotes go out quickly, and that every job runs smoothly from order to off-hire.

Customers often need more than just equipment. They need a team that understands the site, anticipates issues, and responds quickly. That level of support is a core part of how the division operates.

Project Coordination & Sales

Commercial Manager Adam Fletcher and Area Manager Ken Sandell oversee business development and project coordination across the region. That includes everything from early client engagement and design consultations to managing quotations and tracking project delivery.

Working closely with contractors, engineers, and internal teams, they ensure each project has the right solution and stays on track. The role requires technical understanding, strong communication, and a clear focus on client outcomes.

Every part of the Major Projects team plays a role in successful delivery. From mobile coordination units that offer toolbox training and on-site support, to the technical and commercial teams behind the scenes, the division is built to support the full scope of temporary works.

The team also continues to invest in new product development and internal training, staying ahead of changing industry needs and expectations.
