What is the difference between Low, Medium and High Risk confined space courses?

The right course will depend on the level of risk involved and the type of confined space you are working in.




  • Low Risk (6160-01): Covers working safely in lower-risk confined spaces where access is straightforward and there are no significant atmospheric or other hazards.

  • Medium Risk (6160-09): Covers confined spaces where there is a specified risk, requiring additional controls such as monitoring, entry procedures and escape breathing apparatus.

  • High Risk (6160-03): Covers more complex confined spaces where there may be significant hazards, difficult access or a greater risk to workers, requiring additional safety and rescue procedures.


What does the City & Guilds 6160-04 Control Entry and Arrangements course cover?

The City & Guilds 6160-04 course is aimed at people responsible for controlling confined space entry, sometimes referred to as the Top Person or Entry Controller.

The course covers responsibilities such as checking entry procedures, monitoring people entering and leaving the confined space, maintaining communication and responding to an emergency. The role is carried out from outside the confined space.
