Groundforce Sponsor Exhibition for Leaders in Underground Engineering

25 Feb

Groundforce has announced it will be exhibiting and presenting at this year’s ICE Engineering Underground Space Conference, which takes place on the 15th March in London.

The objective of the one-day conference is to raise the profile of the specialist skills sets required within underground engineering, and to share best practice across the industry.

Groundforce Shorco (Major Projects), who are renowned as industry leaders in supplying innovative and bespoke propping solutions for major excavation projects across Europe, will be conducting a presentation on Stiffness Characteristics of Temporary Propping in Deep Basements. The presentation will be delivered by Steven Lloyd, Groundforce’s senior development engineer.

One of the key objectives of the conference is to give delegates the opportunity to learn about the latest developments through case studies, examples and innovative strategies. Groundforce’s presentation will include two experimental case studies based upon data from basements in clay soils from Dublin and London. These will demonstrate how a pre-stressed prop of relatively low stiffness can offer beneficial results in the context of limiting deflections and prop forces in deep excavations and other retaining structures.

Recent projects to which Groundforce has supplied ground-breaking excavation solutions include Crossrail; the Barcode development in Oslo, Norway; and the €40 million redevelopment of the Isola basin in Italy. Monitored data and experience from sites such as these have formed the foundation of the new approach to propping design that Groundforce will be tabling at this conference.
