The aim of this training is to reflect the national occupational standard for a high risk related confined space environment.

This unit covers both water and non-water industry areas:

• Water: this may include working with potable water, sewage treatment processes, drain and sewer cleaning operations or where the operative is working in or near water or where a confined space is subject to surface water flooding
• Non-water: this may include pharmaceutical, petrochemical, asbestos removal, vehicle manufacture and servicing, aeronautical, construction, communications, power, utilities, gas, electrical and mechanical engineering, and some elements of work operations in mines, quarries and tunnelling.

• Prepare to work safely in high risk confined spaces
• Enter and exit high risk confined spaces safely
• Use equipment and tools safely
• Follow working procedures and work safely
• Deal with emergencies
• Understand the principles of working in high risk confined spaces
• Understand standard protocols for working in high risk confined spaces

Candidates must be able to understand spoken English, interpreters are not allowed in the City & Guilds assessment. Reasonable adjustments can be made where required (example: learning difficulty or challenge).

Delegates must be clean shaven and be physically able to carry out the practical exercises.

City & Guilds

Managers, Supervisors, safety professionals and/or operatives who enter high risk confined spaces and want to achieve the City & Guilds qualification.

From 1^st Jan 2022 the governing body, City & Guilds, have updated Confined Spaces training qualifications.  The change means the assessments between Entrant and Entry Controller are split. So, anyone looking to achieve a High Risk Entrant qualification requires the 6160-03 (High Risk) and anyone looking to achieve Entrant Controller will require the 6160-04 (High Risk Entrant Controller).

Specifically, this course in now for ENTRANT ONLY. This course does not provide a qualification for entry controller (Top Person). Thus, this course will not qualify you to perform Top Person duties (as previously was the case under the 6150 suite.)
